Haven't seen anything posted to confirm my thoughts, but I do not think the forum is going away. Why would the staff put in so much effort if it was closing? Wouldn't it be a waste of time and effort doing what has been done so far this year? Heck if it was closing, I betcha there would be more phasing things out and lockdown based on that stuff Rikku herself said than them adding in new stuff and keeping things running.

Course it would be cool to know what is going on with the forums from the team. I'm not really keeping up with a lot on here but I am sorta keeping up with notifications from the FB group. XD

Why would they bring back the Newbie-Teacher Program if they were getting rid of the forum?

To me, that move is more of anticipation of a large inflow of new users.

I don't believe the forum is going to be shutting down any time soon, not as long as there's still activity, not as long as the Forum Suggestions thread is still up and running, not as long as effort is still put into this community. Things have been picking up lately, so I'm sure we have nothing to worry about at the moment, nor in the near as well as the distant future.

I would actually be a bit sad to see lexicon go. Even though it's troublesome, and I'm entirely sure folks abuse it in all the wrong ways, I've made friends with some decent wolves out there recently, and would be a bit heartbroken to suffer the lessening of communication availability with those lupines. It's a shame that there will always be lousy players out there, to ruin a fun thing for everybody.

I think we should keep the forum. Can I ask why lexicon chat is being removed?

Nintendo 3DS is not a possibility-

Valdo2001-2014- the team does intend to keep the forums going! See Dave's post earlier on this page. ;)

Why is the lexicon chat going to be removed?

In regards to the fate of the lexicon in the current version of the game -
WQ Coordinator wrote:Because there is no more grant money, we're only able to keep the forums and game open because wq_admin (Kristie) is going to try to keep up with administrating WolfQuest along with her other assigned tasks at the zoo and because the forum moderators and volunteer administrator are going to do their best to keep things running. If there comes a time when any of these people can't keep up with what's going on, that's when the lexicon would be removed from multiplayer games and the forums would potentially be locked (Note: Dave just mentioned that the forums will stay open.) . . . WolfQuest is meant to be a family-friendly game, which means the chat lexicon had to be created to at least filter, to the best of its ablity, anything that could be deemed inappropriate. If that's your goal and you have the resources to do so, go for it, but WolfQuest being a "free-for-all" game with multiplayer was never its intended goal and its main focus would always remain on singleplayer. With the diminishing funding, it leaves the lexicon to be removed eventually and result in an even more restricted multiplayer in terms of chatting, but that's just how it is.

loboLoco wrote:To clarify some things:

1) For quite awhile, the plan has been to shut down several aspects of WolfQuest: lexicon chat in multiplayer games, and some or all of the forum. But even after that happens, the game would remain available to download for Mac/Windows.

2) We are now working on an iPad/Android tablet version of the game, which will retain almost all or all features of the Mac/Windows game, plus some new enhancements and features. We expect to release it later this year, but not sure exactly when yet. If it's a big success, then we want to expand it further.

#2 is completely independent of #1 above. We are almost certain to shut down lexicon chat in multiplayer at some point, on the Mac/Windows game. We haven't made any firm plans for the forum though, and I do hope we can keep it running to support the iPad game.

Kristie (wq_admin) currently handles abuse reports on the side of the Minnesota Zoo. Given how the zoo wishes to lessen their involvement with the project (which currently centers around the Mac/PC version) and direct time/funding elsewhere, the removal of the lexicon in the current version of WolfQuest will eventually follow suit.

If you are referring to the absence of a lexicon in the upcoming version of WolfQuest for tablets -
Koa wrote: In regards to your concerns about the lack of a lexicon in open games in the new version, unfortunately, the lexicon has proven that it is more trouble than it is worth. WolfQuest multiplayer, while it may hold more importance to certain players, is not entirely the main focal point of the game. The team is trying to solidfy and improve the overall experience that will help accomplish the game's overall intended goal, but it is still not at the core of what game content (singleplayer) that WolfQuest offers.

Phrase chat offers safe options that are appropriate in the context of the weight of multiplayer as well as in the context of WolfQuest's targeted audience. Private games will be improved in the upcoming tablet version and may have more leeway in terms of chat options, but you should only use private games with people who you know personally.

The goal is to provide an educational but safe experience in all forms; WolfQuest is not an MMO and will never be one. I think that phrase chat can accomplish the former for the multiplayer component in a safe, streamlined way for everyone.

Okay, thank you for the clarification and I am sad to hear funding is low. I hope the game will progress and I enjoy playing very much!

I agree, but if it has to be done it has to be done and I do agree with the administrators that it is troublesome and the game is mainly aimed at single player.

Will the app be similar to the windows/mac version or will it have a story line of its own? In other words, what's it going to be like? :)

The app/tablet version of WolfQuest will be similar to the current, existing version of the game.
loboLoco wrote: . . . It will include the complete game, with all gameplay and both Amethyst Mountain and Slough Creek episodes. We are also adding some new features and gameplay . . .
http://www.wolfquest.org/bb/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=75086

The only differences will be some minor tweaks, such as a potential change in how the game ends, and new additiona, like a new map for multiplayer (and potentially for singleplayer, but it would be more along the lines of freeroam rather than campaign. See: http://www.wolfquest.org/bb/viewtopic.p ... p#p2345116 ) and new features/changes to the multiplayer.
