Good news for California's budding wolf population!
Quote from The Sacramento Bee:
Another wolf pack has been found in rural Northern California, complete with pups. The family is descended from the famous wolf OR7, who roamed the north state for several years after migrating from Oregon.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife reported Wednesday that its biologists have fitted a tracking collar on a female gray wolf in Lassen County. Officials said they’ve confirmed that the wolf and her mate have produced at least three pups this year.

I saw this earlier on today, it was such wonderful news to read for the wolves in California. Hopefully the wolf population in California and surrounding areas will continue to grow. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing, Isela! I saw this on IWC's Facebook feed, as well. This is reassuring, given the disappearance of the Shasta pack.
Because this deals with wolf populations that are breaking ground in non-traditional areas, I will move this thread to Wolf Conservation.

No problem! I hope so too. It would be wonderful to see a stable wolf population in those regions again!

Of course! That's where I first saw the article too. The disappearance of the Shasta pack was alarming, but this new pack brings fresh hope :]

Yes! It's very exciting to see wolf populations spreading back out into their historic ranges.
You're welcome! <:

This is exciting news. Although I live in SoCal, it's nice knowing that wolves are moving back to California. Perhaps eventually we'll see packs from Arizona and Mexico, grow, disperse, and find their way into SoCal too.

Very exciting news to see not only new wolves in California, but a pack with pups as well. Thanks for sharing! Hopefully the wolf population there can continue establishing itself and growing.

(Whoops, I didn't see this topic before! Anyway, this article is another great one and also talks a little about the Shasta Pack):
A recently discovered gray wolf pack is now the second-known family of the endangered species to call the Northern California wilderness home, state wildlife officials confirmed Wednesday.
Known as the Lassen Pack, the family includes two adult gray wolves and at least three pups.
The pups and the group’s matriarch were tracked this summer crossing into industrial timberlands and private and public properties throughout western Lassen County, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The pack also has ventured into Plumas County.
The family’s arrival comes two years after the first pack of gray wolves was spotted in the area since the 1920s. In 2014, state wildlife authorities added gray wolves to California's endangered species list.
The second half of the article goes into more detail about the first sightings of the wolves and so on. You can find it here: http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-m ... story.html
This new pack has been dubbed the Lassen Pack.

Isela has already posted a thread on this pack
here, but I like the LA Times so I will merge this thread with hers.
