Where can I find up-to-date info on the Caninae family?

Post by Swifty » Wed Oct 23, 2013 8:15 am

Hello!

I'm researching information for a book I'm writing; and I would like to know where I might find the most up-to-date info on wolves, coyotes, and foxes. Books and websites alike will work so long as the information is accurate.

Thanks!

~Swifty

P.S. If this is not the best place to put this topic, please let me know where I should put it next time. Thanks!

  • Hmm, can you be more specific on what kind of information you are looking for Swifty?

And although it is widely accepted in academic circles that Wikipedia is not a reputable source, it can be a good place to find other, more reputable sources.

I would like detailed information on behavior, diet, pack structure, hunting tactics, etc,. The story I'm writing is a fantasy, but I would like the characters to act and feel like real Caninae as much as possible (think Richard Adems's Watership Down). That why I came here. Wikipedia has some info, but it's not as detailed or reputable as I would like.

  • Okay, what comes to mind is the following book by wolf biologist David Mech: . You might be able to get it from an academic library if you aren't willing to buy it.

Thanks! Since wolves are the hardest to find out about, this will be great.

  • I hope it helps :). If you can't get your hands on that books, your best bet would be scientific articles. Even just reading the abstracts when you don't have the permission to view the whole article can be enough!
