FWP seeks comments on proposed wolf hunt
May 24, 2011
Fish, Wildlife and Parks is seeking comments on a statewide wolf hunt proposed for the 2011 season.
Based on the 2009 season, FWP wildlife managers propose creating 14 management units with a statewide harvest quota of 220 wolves. Last year, FWP commissioners approved a 186-wolf hunt on 13 units, but the hunt was blocked by a court order.
Most of the proposed 14 management units are in western Montana and are smaller than past units, with some subunits also included. An archery season for wolves has been proposed for Sept. 3 through Oct. 16. The 220-wolf quota is expected to reduce the state’s wolf population by about 25 percent to about 425 wolves.
Comments can be mailed to FWP Wildlife Bureau, Attn: Public Comment, P.O. Box 200701, Helena MT 59620-0701 or online at http://fwp.mt.gov, click on “For Hunters.” Deadline is June 20.

Re: FWP seeks comments on proposed wolf hunt
Hmm. Alright.
I (personally) believe the proposed quote should be fine - 425 wolves leftover to me sounds stable but I'm not very aware on Montana's situation when it comes to prey populations (if they have been drastically reduced) and so forth, ha.
