How to get rid of cougar? (A.E)

I play on Accurate. Recently, I've had a hard time getting rid of a cougar from my elk carcass. It doesn't matter what time my wolf wakes up, the cougar will still spawn. It doesn't matter how long I sleep away from the carcass, the cougar will still be eating it. It doesn't even matter if I reload my last save, the cougar will still show up. I've also been growling, snarling, confident tail emote, and harassing the cougar until I had less than 10% health, but the cougar still wouldn't flee. My game autosaved when I was fighting the cougar, so maybe if I delete my autosaved game the cougar won't spawn? But I don't want to delete a game if it won't fix my issue.

Thank you! I did that and it worked! I might also try it on bears.

I was chasing one away today and I think a good strategy is to run around it, growling and pursuing it, but running away before taking a hit. It will eventually leave, but mine always came back.
