Where do I find the cougars?

How do I find cougars in each map? I've been wanting to get a few achievements but I don't come across enough of them. (Achievements like "Provoke a lounging cougar" and "Chase away 50 cougars".)
I've always come across them at random, or when raising pups. But how do I find them when I'm not raising pups? What's the best difficulty to find them in? Best time of day? Where are they often found? Because I've tried looking around certain rocks in different times of day, and I've had no luck. (And it's easier to find a cougar that's walking around than a cougar that's lounging!)
Are they this hard to find for everyone or does anyone have some tips that can help me (and others) find some cougars? :)

Someday the WolfQuest Wiki's cougar article will provide a map of approximate roaming spawn locations and rocky perch spawns. Since I don't actively play the game, progress is extremely slow due to a major lack of motivation, so unfortunately it'll be a while before those are finished and uploaded. Some (incomplete!) Wiki maps I am working on:

Output quality is deliberate, but the images should hopefully still be legible. Looks like you posted before I could finish editing my last post, so here's what I had to add in a new response.

There are a few spawning places for cougars, here are some of the most common:

Amethyst Mountain
rocks in Fossil Forest and one further to Druid territory. Cougars often sit there at Night, Dusk, and Dawn.

There is also a rock in Douglas fur forest but there rarely there.

Lost River
This map is cougar haven, so it's best to look there first.

My favorite spot is in the Two Steps, on the second level of the steps there's a rock cougars sit on, but for me they sorta fall through the rock and are in reach. But they can't attack you because their in "Rock mode", it's an easy way to kill cougars!

I tend to find cougars in Slough Creek, around Sandbar Crossing. Make a bunch of kills in the elk grounds at Sandbar Crossing and a cougar is most likely to come to you.
