This is awesome! I think I'd want a social-bold-energetic one myself.
As for the worst and best mates? The mates in 2.5 were always annoying, and the whole pup drowning issue was pretty bad, too. But I think the 2.7 mates are wonderful, because they make the river crossing significantly safer.

Usually when I make new wolves I try to keep their howls different, to make the experience a little more diverse. I try to choose howls that suit them, like for example a strong, powerful wolf having a deeper, more powerful howl.
I like the current howls but I'm totally open to adding new ones.

This is exciting, and totally changes how the game is played.
One question though- the pups will be less reliant on food, right? Since hunting and stuff will be harder.
