Sizing Up (and Down)

Post by loboLoco » Tue Jul 11, 2023 12:55 pm

The big update (v1.1.0) that we released two weeks ago had a lot of stuff in it -- but there were a few more things that we wanted to include but just couldn't get them ready in time. So we've been working on those (along with a lot of minor improvements and bug fixes), and they're now ready for public beta.

First, you can now set your wolf's body size freely! Originally this was controlled by the Strength attribute, but we removed that after Age Perks made it a bit weird for your wolf to grow larger or smaller from year to year, depending on the Strength perk. Now it has a button of its own in wolf customization -- and size is heritable, with three alleles in the wolf genome that influence the size of pups when they grow up.

Another nice little new feature: the Bark emote actually has an effect, calling your packmates over to you. (Don't abuse it though -- you wouldn't want to be the player who cried wolf.)

These and many smaller improvements, plus a long list of bug fixes, are in the new public beta for patch v1.1.0b, available on Steam for Mac and Windows. Instructions below on how to opt into the public beta, You can read the complete beta patch notes in-game, or on Steam here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/926990/allnews/

TO GET THE BETA BUILD
1) In the Steam app, go to your Library, then right-click on the WolfQuest: AE name in the left column and choose Properties.
2) Then go to the Betas tab and select the WQ current Beta option in the pulldown. No password is necessary. Steam should then start downloading it. Later you can switch back to the public version in that Betas tab, by selecting NONE in that pulldown.

The WolfQuest saga will continue! Stay tuned for more news in upcoming devblogs about it and other new features!

Once the game is completed on PC/Mac, we will turn our attention to other platforms.

We do not announce specific release dates. We will release them when they are ready.

I'm really pleased to see that you can customize the size of your wolf! :D I was a little confused on that matter anyway, so it's nice to have another customization option available!
