How do I report a player?

Post by Neamara » Sat Nov 21, 2015 4:10 pm

If you see anyone breaking the multiplayer guidelines, please help us out by reporting them as soon as possible. The built-in game reporting feature generates a transcript of the chat logs which the WolfQuest Team can review and take the appropriate action when dealing with problem players. It is vital that reports are submitted as soon as a player’s poor behavior surfaces!

Please do not submit your reports to the forum, either via private message or in a new topic. We have provided reasons not to do so here so please take a moment to read that thread as well.

Reporting while playing

These instructions only apply while playing in someone’s session or server.
  • Open Pack Stats (Esc // Pause menu), find the problem player, and click the ‘Report’ button.

Reporting from the lobby

These instructions only apply while viewing sessions or servers displayed in the public multiplayer lobby.
  • Find the problem game and click the ‘Report’ button.
If you have been kicked, the target game will not be visible to you in the lobby.

What should I do if I didn’t report?

If you have proof, a last resort would be to submit an abuse report via e-mail.
  1. Know their username(s). Make sure your evidence clearly displays their username! This is found while entering a game and shown on the lobby. Wolf names are very vague and offer us very little help if it is a common name. (For example, a wolf named “Fang” could be used across many players.)
  2. Provide proof. Take a screenshot of rule breaking behavior as soon as possible. Alternatively, provide your output_log file.
  3. Send an abuse report. E-mail abuse@wolfquest.org and don’t forget to include the above details in the message body. You can attach screenshot(s) to the e-mail or you can upload them to a file/media/photo-sharing website and provide the direct link(s) in the message body. All abuse reports are strictly confidential.

What is/is not reportable?

While we appreciate our players for taking the time to submit a report, here are some good topics for further discussion and reading, respectively:

Notes

How to find the chat log
Before restarting the game, find the chat log.
On Windows: You can find the chat log under C:\Users\%USERNAME%\My Documents\My Games\WolfQuest\WolfQuest_Data\output_log.txt (for Itch.io) or C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\WolfQuest\WolfQuest_Data\output_log.txt (for Steam*).
On Mac: OSX: You can find it in an application called “Console” which you can find in the Applications/Utilities folder. Launch that app, then in the left side window, under “Database Searches” and “Files” scroll down until you see “Unity” (it’s nested inside FILES/~/Library/Logs, so twirl those open if they’re not already). Then click on Unity/Player.log and copy the contents of the big window into an e-mail.

If you don’t find the chat log there, try this:
  1. Right click on the program icon
  2. Choose “Run as Administrator”
  3. Allow access/confirm the prompt in any Windows pop-ups.
Repeat the above Windows steps. Your output_log should have generated. To make the change permanent, right click the program icon, click ‘Properties’, click the ‘Compatibility’ tab and then click ‘Advanced’. Check the box shown beside ‘Run Program as Administrator’ and click OK. You will need to confirm the prompt every time WolfQuest is launched, but this will allow the output_log to compile every time you play the game. This also benefits bug reporting.

How to take a screenshot
Press the 1 key on your keyboard. That should take a screenshot and save it in your WolfQuest folder. Or,
For Windows: hold down the shift key and push the ‘print screen’ button near the top of your keyboard. Release both keys. Open a writing/drawing/publishing program (like Word or Paint) and click on Paste or use Ctrl + V. Save the file.
For Mac: Press Command + Shift + 3. This should save a screenshot on your desktop.

File/media/photo-sharing websites
If the service you are using requires an account to view uploads, please be aware that we will not create an account for the sole purpose of reviewing abuse reports. Sorry!

* = By default, Steam may install to Program Files (x86) on 64-Bit machines. On 32-Bit machines, it defaults to Program Files. If the specified path returns an error or invalid directory, try removing (x86). If you specified a custom directory when installing Steam, use that instead.
