To own a pet fox, as said above, need to have a lisence to own. It is due to the fact of you needing to know how to take care of them, make sure you know what to feed them and how to get it along with a whole lot of other things. Foxes are a hard 'pet' to look after considering they are not pets but wild animals. Again, I have only heard of animal specialists taking in and taking care of these animals.

I found something interesting and I think everyone who ever fantasize in keeping foxes as pets should take a look at it, at least: http://exoticpets.about.com/od/foxes/Foxes.htm

I do agree with you about having a license.

My uncle Leroy worked at an animal center in Canada (my birth-nation) and he once brought home a fox pup for me to nurse back to health. I named the pup Todd, and he was only four weeks old when Uncle L. brought him home. From what I was told, Todd's mother was shot down after raiding a farmer's poultry, leaving Todd and his sister Anang alone to die. We had licenses, and yeah it is legal in certain parts of the world. We still have Todd because once they are raised in captivity, they're no longer allowed to go back to the wild. Well, they are, but that makes them more susceptible to Death.

I'm doing a lot of research on fennec foxes.
They are cute, but I know how much work they are.
Does anyone know if they are allowed in Kentucky?

I have looked up if they are legal in Kentucky, and on two sites I found the answer was "yes". Though you really should look up the most current laws on owning foxes in your state since these may be outdated.

Fennecs are legal in 26 states.

States .... Legal Y/N ............... Needs permit Y/N

Kentucky
... Yes ............... No
http://www.critterhouse.com/fennec_state_laws.htm

Never purchase a Fennec fox or other wild animal without checking the laws first. You need to make sure they are legal as pets and you should find out whether or not you need a permit. Their prices range from $1,000 - $20,000 (make sure you get one from a good breeder, otherwise you may end up with a sick one)

I wouldn't suggest getting a pet fox, they are wild animals. But in any case make sure you do your research.

Like I said, I researched them.
My friend used to have one
May I tell you,
They dont make bad pets all the time.

And I know they cost a lot
BUT,
I will check in with a breeder

If you want a fennec fox, (Which is once again a wild animal and not meant to be a pet), get a chihuahua. Chihuahuas actually were bred from them. So they are closely related.

And if i had to choose a pet fox, i'd pick the red fox. They are beautiful.

Even if getting a fox, you have to be carefull. You need to educate yourself greatly on the need of a fox, and make sure you live up the standards along with making sure you do not get bored with the animal after you actualy get one. Since it is not fare to the animal, since it's not a toy. Along with most basic needs, I believe a fenece fox is used to a humad climate (I could be wrong) since they are usually found in desert reagons.

I've heard of people doing stuff like this, I mainly see Fennec Foxes. but as cute as they are, the one's I've seen never look truly happy to be honest. they always seem grumpy and bite and snap a lot.
I don't approve of owning ANY wild animal or Wild crossbreeds (wolfdogs, coyote crosses, etc.) on purpose and certainly not people who breed them on purpose with the aim of selling them as "pets". I just don't think it's right and I think a lot of the reasons have probably already been mentioned in this topic.

Yeah, I would have to agree - get a Chihuahua. I only have Todd because my Uncle runs a rescue shelter. Also, we have Chihuahuas; and its best that you just get a small anklebiter or something than actually buying a fox. Same with wolves. They're wild animals. They're not meant for captivity, but I guess that too is controversial.

I agree with you. The wild animals I often see at shops like Petland and Animal Zone over here in Ohio are often sick and quite moody. They're often taken away from their parents and sold for an extremely high price and they're often sick (in which they die pretty much the next day.)

I have heard foxes are alot of work.I do agree not to get a wild animal but yet I own a two wolves. But if you consider getting a fox or any wild animal do loads and loads and more loads of research. And make sure to research on what signs show you the dude is a bad breeder.Cause i'll tell you if I ever found out someone was a bad breeder.
I would send them to the deep pitless hole they belong in!

I think if you're planning on getting a fox you really should think,
Do you have the time for it? and if you need to do some more work in your backyard and somethhing for the fox to do while its bored. and more if it disturbs your neighbors and all that sort-of stuff, really depends on where you live.
And yes you should do a lot more research on their behavior.
