Cana has stated that the forum upgrade might improve forum speed and reduce lag, however there is no absolute guarantee that this will happen:

Ah, the question of the year. Yes, it is possible the upgrade will improve server performance. We've tried to determine the cause of the lag, and while forum lag is typically caused by too many people loading too many pages, this obviously isn't the sole cause of our lag here, because it happens even when only a few people are online. So the next possible cause could be from problems with the forum itself. And judging by the fact that whole forums have completely disappeared and the User Guides and THH forums are on the fritz now, that could be a strong possibility. Whether these issues will be fixed with a forum upgrade, well, your guess is as good as mine, but it sure doesn't hurt to try. It would be absolutely stellar if the forum upgrade solved the lag issues... that's one major thing we're hoping for. But we can all cross our fingers and see what will happen.

We actually just changed around a few server settings and programs running, and that seems to have sped up the forums considerably, at least from what I've noticed. It would be great if the forum upgrade sped it up even more!

Haha, I thought I noticed the forums moving faster lately ;D And I agree, would be great if the forum upgrade improved the speed more! Thanks for the update, Cana!

I thought I noticed that the forum lag had disappeared, although I wasn't sure whether it was due to the upgrade or not. It's a great change nonetheless!

I realized that the forums were moving a lot faster lately. That's good! Seems like it helped a lot, thanks Cana. ^^
It will definatly be great if the forum upgrade will help speed up the forum more.

I've also noticed the forums have sped up slightly. I'm glad they're faster, and hopefully the full forum upgrade will help even more. ^^
