Re: Should We Bring Back Extinct Animals? De-Extinction Deba
That is my original opinion, though it'd be good for us to study, the animal itself could suffer massively which is bad. It's a dangerous thing for us as well.
Edit- I made a massive typo, edited!

Please stay on topic; petty discussion takes away from the discussion itself.

Sorry, Koa!
Back on topic:
Back to the point of environmental changes etc...
The environment has changed so quickly including nature itself, a previously extinct animal's food source may now also be long gone. Some plants have disappeared from when other animals were around.

Re: Should We Bring Back Extinct Animals? De-Extinction Deba
Evolutionary, 100 years isn't long at all for a species. I would guess the time period in which these animals could be brought back, and would be beneficial to their past environments, would be much much longer.
Many of the issues with bringing back extinct animals are noted in this link, what I find most interesting is the microbiome of the mammoth. It definitely might be hard for them to digest foods if the organisms that made their digestive tract run smoothly are extinct as well!

Re: Should We Bring Back Extinct Animals? De-Extinction Deba
That was my earlier point of their food being extinct too. For herbivorous creatures it's plants that can be digested for their needs but if you were to bring back a carnivorous animal you'd have to also bring back it's prey, this could cause huge issues with money and the fact the herbivorous creature may not be able to have any food.

Re: Should We Bring Back Extinct Animals? De-Extinction Deba
Nah, it's not so much about the particular plants and animals they eat(In the case of animals that have become extinct recently). It's about the microbiome in their guts, the bacteria that thrive in places such as the intestines and help the animal digest food well. If those microorganisms are gone, digesting food could prove a very hard task for the animals.

Re: Should We Bring Back Extinct Animals? De-Extinction Deba
Ah, I was talking more about long-gone animals, their foods may not be extinct and their stomachs would be used to eating that certain plant. (For example, dinosaurs, that sort of age away)

Re: Should We Bring Back Extinct Animals? De-Extinction Deba
I guess so, seen as the bacteria may not be around anymore and possibly no closer "relatives" so finding the right was to create it would be difficult, I'm guessing.
