General Parrot Discussion

Post by Quivira » Thu Sep 15, 2011 6:51 pm

Since there's a new board just for birds, I'm going to make a general parrot discussion topic.

So, what's your opinions on parrot?

I honestly love them. They're my absolute favorite animals.

My favorite parrots have to be:
- Caiques
- Umbrella C ockatoos
- Eclectuses
- Goffins C ockatoos
- Hahn's Macaws
- Pesquet's Parrot
- Blue-crowned Conures
- Parrotlets
- Quakers
- Rainbow Lorikeets
- Senegals
- African Greys

So many to choose from. XD

If you have a pet parrot and you want to share it with us, just post the name, gender, and breed. To actually talk about your birds, please go to the Pet Bird topic in the Pets board.

Currently, my pet parrots include:
Fredo - Female Lutino C ockatiel
Tony - Male Cinnamon C ockatiel
Zoey - Female Pearl C ockatiel
Eaglet - Male Pied C ockatiel
Bunji - Male green budgie
Pastel - Female pastel blue budgie
Flitter - Male blue budgie
Marble - Female albino budgie
Quartz - Male albino budgie
Desperado - Male green Quaker

I'm saving up my money for a Caique, however.

You've got a lot of parrots, Redsky! O.o

I adore African Greys, especially Congo African Greys. I want one so bad, but unfortunately I won't be getting a $2,OOO bird anytime soon. xD One reason why is that my parents can't stand the constant talking of a parrot.

Anyways, I also like C
ockatoos, blue-and-yellow macaws, and scarlet macaws. Those are the main ones that I like, they are all so beautiful~

If someone is making you pay $2,000 for an African Grey, you are paying way too much. Most only cost around $950 - $1150.

Seriously? Every time I look up African Grey prices, it always says $2,OOO or even more. My friend also owns a few parrot-type birds and she says they'll cost you about $2,OOO as well. Of course, she only has parakeets, but at least she actually owns something parrot-like. It's nice to know I don't have to pay $2,OOO or more!

Yeah, that's way too much. You're friend is WAY off.

Here's some experienced breeders that sell African Greys at decent prices: http://www.birdfarm.com/sale/african-greys-for-sale.asp

Getting a bit pet-like here, best change it to a better wild parrot discussion.

In Florida, we say many Nanday Conures and Quaker parrots flying around, all feral. I've heard that they're invasive species in many states and are illegal to own in quite a few. In Missouri, wild Quakers are shot on sight. At least they aren't illegal to own here.

Ah, I expected you to be the one to make this topic, Redo~ xD

As some of you may know, I've got an albino Indian Ringneck (I could post a picture if any of you would like to see), named Angel. =D

Anyway, I quite love parrots, especially African Greys, Macaws, Eclectuses, and a lot of Australia's natives, such as C ockatoos (black, especially), Rosellas, and the like.

Rosellas are so beatiful, especially the crimson. Oh, how I would love to see a small, bright red and blue bird flying around, though seeing a female eclectus would be five times the fun. My favorite colors. <3

Ah yes, they are quite a beautiful sight. :'D Though I haven't seen any yet this season, though I'll be keeping a look out in the hope of snapping a good shot of a pair. Possibly the Black C ockatoos as well~ (Though all they do is fly over my house to get to the national park, instead of actually landing) :U

Parrots are very beautiful birds <3 My local tropical centre has two Scarlet Macaws which are very colourful and pretty (I've been meaning to get a picture for ages), but extremely noisy too. ;D I'm a big fan of macaws in general - the Hyacinth Macaw is one of my favourites.

I'm not too familiar with many other parrot species but I searched the Rosellas and they look stunning.

I love parrots.
Now that I live in Mexico, you can just look outside your window and watch parrots in the mango tree by your window. One good thing about Mexico.
Me and my parents are planning on buying a parrot - though not sure which type. Probably a big one. :B

Make sure to do research! Big parrots take A LOT of responsibility, since they are basically like toddlers for life, and just might even outlive you. They're really noisy to.
From what all parrot owners experience, it's best to own a few smaller birds before taking in a large one, like, raising up.
They're also very expensive, most large parrots going up to $1,000 or more. D;

I really like African Greys. I don't know what it is about them, I just really enjoy them.

I would like to own a parrot, but my mom is allergic to feathers. And RedSky, Got a lot of parrots there.
