Silver's Photography; Deer&me//Update//25.12. MOOSE

Post by Silverheart98 » Thu Nov 09, 2017 9:12 am

Hello there!

I'm SilverSparrow AKA Pikkulintu. I am hobbyist nature photographer specialising on deer animals. Moose and deer are our countries species, we don't have elk here. In my area there's no large predators, sadly, they are in northern parts of my country. So all I have to photograph is deer, moose and small wild animals.

It doesn't stop me though. I have this 'gift' to get close up deer and moose - sometimes closer that I'd want! When I go to photograph, I never come abck without deer or moose sightings, and often I also get the photos too.

I have my own ways how to success, but I don't like it that I'd sound like I'm bragging too much so I leave it out from here.

Want to see my photos? Here are direct links to imgur albums:

^ These shots are one of my first ones ever, taken this summer. I can't say that they are as good as what I get now, due to my lack of skills back then. But everyone has to start somewhere. This is where it all started!

^ Ah yes, the first ever moose I captured on camera. I was more than happy that I managed this - not only its rare to spot moose around here, it's also difficult! I was waiting this girl for 2,5 hours, she appeared at sunset. She was only 6 meters from me! She came to eat some leaves from young trees. She only spooked at the end because she walked into my downwind scent, at the start I was above the wind from her direction, then she moved. Anyway, I got the photos!

^ This cutie is the first fox I've ever captured on camera- so far the only one! That's about how difficult it is to photograph or spot these clever guys! It was fox kit, very cute little one! :)

^ This yearling bull moose! It was late summer and I was just photoshooting buck deer before he came, heres the buck photos by the way:
Anyway, I started hearing loud crackling from the forest. This was a sound I knew very well, after I had photoshot two cow moose before he came. I knew it was sound of a moose coming - FAST! So he ran into the field no more than 5 or maybe 4 meters from me! I got a huge scare - and so did he! After the first scare, he became rather curious. He started staring at me, staying still. I was shaking and the adrenaline threw quite a flow over me! I do know that moose can be dangerous, and I swear, if you ever get that close...you will understand why its so scary! He started making his way further away from me, and then he stopped. He loooked at me, wondering that wwhat wwas that weird creature that spooked him. He started coming towards me, and I didn't like that thing! Luckilly he soon decited that he better stay away from me and he made his way over the field into the forest. Moose can be very curious!!

Heres photos of mom and daughter deer and also one crown headed moose I saw between the trees in the forest, wish was scary too since he was close! Sadly the photo isn't all clear. But the deer photos are better! They were close up too!

^ These ones, yep these ones...they are one of my most precious shots! And also close up! They were about 4 meters away! It was beautiful sunset and the deer appeared from the tall grass, it was heart racing moment; first they weren't there, then they were! I photoshot these beauties right before the mom figured that something was wrong, and left with her fawn. It was very awesome meeting, although maybe the deer wont agree with that!

Moose calves. You know it's scary around moose, but nothing is as scary as being 6 meters from mother and her calves! Mother was on other side of tree branches so I couldnt get a good shot of her, so I just focused on the calves. In this case I heard crackles behind me when I was at a stalking spot on field. So I went to see to the small meadow that what was it about. I soon noticed that there were three moose. I stalked up to about 6 meters close, then decited that it wasn't good idea to go any closer; the mom started looking my way, but didn't yet see me. So I stayed there and these were the shots I got!

These are some random shots I've gotten this autumn, deer, more deer and owl! They aren't the best shots I've gotten, but not the worst either!

^ This fella - the most gorgeus white tailed buck I've ever gotten on camera! I actually shot these photos close up, 4 meters from the buck and it was yesterday 8.11.2017. I wouldn't have gotten any shots, unless I woulnd't have figured out a way to attract him closer! How? Well I had this dry wooden stick with me for fake antler sounds. When I saw this buck in the tall grass, I figured I could try if he was interested to come to see who this rival buck was making these antler sounds on twigs and branches. I started making the crakle sound and the buck disappeared - only to pop up 4 meters away!!

Welp he appeared again, very close to the area where I saw him before! I named him Prince. (Wait wait, how I know its him? Well, I understand it may not be him, but I saw the antlers, his size, age, coloring...everything matches so well to the buck I saw before plus he was so close to the area I saw him before and this is HIS territory...so it's very likely that this buck IS Prince! I may be wrong tho!) Soo here is our gorgeus white tailed buck:

The first photos aren't too good, since it was pretty dim. My camera always messes up when its getting/is dark :c
But yeah the middle photos are best!

Soo these are the best ones so far that I've gotten. I started this hobby as self learner this summer. The summer with deer have taught me alot about deers, their behaviour and curiousity! I have learned alot of good skills and methods to get close to these awesome animals and get them on photo!

I have to say, I'm pretty envious to read about and see your encounters with all these beautiful kinds of wildlife. Your photos are really nice, too; I particularly like all of your white-tailed deer photographs but honestly, they're all cool. I bet they were a nice experience to take as well!

Hope to see some more of these in the future, if you happen to get lucky again :)
