New den?

Post by TheOnlyTherian » Sat Mar 24, 2018 8:15 pm

I was wondering why move to a new den site when there is one already?
I mean is, why move all the pups from the birth den then travel through Slough Creek to the other den site?

It's a question I have been wondering for a while now. I don't know if it's a real life thing too for wolves? Most wolves just stay at their original den till the pup is about 2 years old to move out, to find their own family or to stay with their parents?

Note: I'm not complaining about the quest, just wondering. I do enjoy it though but it can be tiring sometimes!

I’m not sure where you got your information, but wolves do move dens; they do not wait until the pups are two years of age to do so. They also do not reside in a den through two years of age, either. Dens are small and cramped and are only big enough to house a mother and her pups.

Around eight to ten weeks of age, the parents will move the pups to a rendezvous site— this is not the same as a den. See http://www.wolf.org/wolf-info/basic-wol ... velopment/ for more info.

Yes, and wolves do this to either get away from dangers or to follow elk herds. They don't just move from the first den to the second; they can move to many rendezvous sites.

As TimberRaven said, wolves move from one site to another, traveling with there young adult pups all over there territory. The reason is for following the herds, but also an easier way to patrol their land and keep rival pack's away.
It also helps prepare the pups for long traveling when they disperse.
There are many reasons, and I hope some of this helped!

Oh, now I understand. Den is where the pups are born and raised and a rendezvous site is different from the den. Understood. I didn't get it from any information, just thought.

So why can't I do it while in the game? Like, move to another den, not the ending part of the Slough Creek Quest?

It’s probably due to gameplay reasons— keeping players at one den may have helped simplify the mission structure. Dave would know more in that regard.
