Is it possible for wolves to breed with other canid species?
I have occasionally heard of cases where wolves mate with dogs and produce a sort of hybrid offspring. I don't know if this is true, but I think that it is mostly possible since it can happen with other animals such as tigers and lions. The result is something like this. So can wolves produce offspring with other canine species?

Re: Is it possible for wolves to breed with other canid spec
Yes they can! Although it is not their preference, they have been known to interbreed with coyotes (especially if they cannot find wolf mates), dogs (mostly through human intervention), and dingoes. But the number of chromosomes they have have to be same or be 'close enough', otherwise they can't breed (or will produce infertile offspring).
Like you won't see a wolf/fox hybrid, because that hybridization isn't genetically possible even though they are part of the same family...they aren't in the same genus. The wolf belongs to the Canis genus, while the fox belongs to the Vulpes genus.
For more information, you can read this article here. I know its from Wikipedia, but the information checks out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canid_hybrid

Thanks Solitary for answering the question! There are also a couple of threads on wolf dogs in General Wolf Discussion, so you should check those out, too.
