i heard that wolves mate for life is this true? what happens if one dies? i read a little i understand the pack idea alpha male and female and the betas so: can a new alpha grow in a big enough pack or does an alpha dying make a pack split up or something?
also: are all the betas in a pack pups of the alphas?

1. Yes, wolves are monogamous. However, if one of the pair dies, the other wolf will simply find a new mate, if they can.
2. Whatever you read that said that wolves have ranks such as "alpha" or "beta" was wrong. Wolves don't have such an organized structure. Packs are typically made up of two "dominant" wolves (the breeding pair) and their offspring.
