What would a wolf do if a pup died?

Post by friendlyshadows » Sun Apr 07, 2013 11:28 am

I know the wolf wouldn't morun or greive or bury the death of a pup, but would they move the pup somewhere other then the den? So if the pup died at the den would they leave it where it died?
(I think I have an idea but just making sure)

Generally if a pup dies in (or right by) the den, the mother will move it out to keep the location and area of the den clean. Following this, many times the carcass will be consumed by other animals/insects in a matter of time. If a pup were to die somewhere other than the denning site, it's generally left where it lies for the natural ecosystem to use.
