* The topic (READ!: Wolf Q&A - Frequently Asked Questions) does need a bit of updating, i.e., the red "wolf" (C. rufus) is really a coyote hybrid, and though still recognized as a wolf species to some, the red "wolf" we once thought unique no longer exists due to generations of irreversible breeding between coyotes and wolves. In addition, C. l lycaon was recently recognized as C. lycaon/species of wolf; however, it too has a large amount of coyote blood, and while not as much as the red "wolf" has accumulated over time, still is just a coyote-wolf hybrid and nothing more.
