To cut short the answer, it is true.
  • How far can a wolf hear, see and smell?
Blightwolf wrote:The surface area receptive to smell in the wolf nose is 100 times that of a human nose, and approximately 14 times that of a dog's, although the degree of sensitivity to smell is not directly correlative to surface area.
  • From how far away can wolves sense their prey and how?
Wolves have an excellent sense of smell and often locate prey using their noses. In addition to that, wolves can also follow fresh tracks of animals, but more often, wind borne odours lead them to their next meal. Wolves can also detect the scent of a prey animal from up to one and a half miles away, if the wind is blowing from the direction of the prey animals towards the wolves, they sometimes may be able to smell the presence of prey animals over even longer distances.
