Re: Broken Bones
Possibly they can I checked on Google and they said
I hope this answer you questionThey can even break hard bones in just a few bites. Wolves at the San Diego Zoo are fed a specialized carnivore diet, as well as large bones to chew on.
Re: Broken Bones
Source: http://www.wolfcountry.net/information/ ... uries.htmlWolves can get injuries from large prey animals that defend themselves, when the pack attacks a large moose or bison they can receive injuries from kicks and if the prey had antlers or horns it can cause a lot of damage. Wolves can be trampled under the hooves, Artist George Catlin reported an 1844 attack on a buffalo by a pack of wolves in which two of the wolves had been crushed to death under the hooves of the animal.
Man also causes injuries to wolves, leg-hold traps, illegal hunting, wolves being hit by cars (rare), poisoning (one wolf was known to die from drinking from a antifreeze spill on the road).
Other wolf injuries are caused by falls from rock ledges, drowning in swift rivers, fights with other wolves (territory disputes or near mating season), attacks by bears, infections from porcupine quills. In Denali National park in Alaska two wolves were killed in an avalanche.
Injuries like broken bones could be fatal depending which bone is broken, if it a broken leg with an open wound the wolf would soon die from infection or starvation. Although, there have been cases of wolves having broken ribs, cheekbones, and jaws that have healed (see http://www.wolf.org/wolves/learn/basic/ ... juries.pdf).
Wolf packs are not like African Wild Dog packs, they will not bring food back for the sole purpose of caring for an injured pack member, so the injured wolf would be responsible for feeding itself. If they cannot hunt with the injury or find any carcasses to scavenge off of, it would eventually die.

Re: Broken Bones
Like Croix said broken bones can be fatal but in the wild just from hunting and daily needs of surviving a few injuries are sure to happen but it does depend on which bone. If it was a shattered leg bone the wolf would be unable to walk without pain so hunting is impossible. Although if it was a tail i am almost sure the wolf would still be able to hunt or at least find food and fend off predators.
