WQ:AE - Steam Tips

Post by Neamara » Sun May 30, 2021 9:29 am

Before we begin, I'd like to start by emphasizing that this will only work for those running the game via Steam. It will not work for Itch.io players, due to it being DRM-free and not running through a third-party client. To perform any of these:
  • The game must not be running. You must exit the game.
  • Steam must not be in offline mode.
If problems persist, try restarting Steam.

Autoconfig

If you've set the graphics quality too high, but the game continuously crashes and does not reset itself to a safe level, ordinarily, you might be stuck running the game again in the hope that it'll correct itself eventually. Fortunately, Steam has a workaround, so you shouldn't be *too* stuck.

Open your Steam client and find WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition in your library. Then...
  1. Right-click WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition.
  2. Click Properties...
  3. You'll land on the General tab by default. Look for "Launch Options"!
  4. Type -autoconfig exactly as shown here.
  5. Run the game and wait for it to boot to the title scene / main menu.
  6. Remove -autoconfig from the game's launch options.
If the game did not successfully boot or landed on the crash screen, please make sure your computer meets or exceeds the minimum system requirements. If it does, try verifying the game's integrity. If problems persist, kindly review the following:

Verify Integrity

The game files may sometimes cause odd behaviour in a game. For example, if the game cannot find or read a particular file, it may crash, freeze, become unresponsive, or throw error messages. Occasionally, files may be missed or skipped while a game updates or installs; this can have any number of causes, such as anti-virus software refusing downloads or flagging a false positive, Steam server uptime, or your internet connection. Verifying the cache makes sure all of the required game files are present and up-to-date.

Open your Steam client and find WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition in your library. Then...
  1. Right-click WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition.
  2. Click Properties...
  3. Click "Local Files".
  4. Click the Verify integrity of game files... button.
  5. Wait for the process to complete. If files are missing, Steam will notify you and retrieve, extract, and install them for you.
  6. Run the game. If there were any issues, test to see if they are now solved.
If problems persist, review the support center articles for further help and troubleshooting.

Betas

To access beta builds, follow these instructions. You can repeat to opt-in or opt-out as often as you'd like.

Open your Steam client and find WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition in your library. Then...
  1. Right-click WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition.
  2. In the context menu, click 'Properties...'.

  3. At the top of the properties interface, click the 'Betas' tab.
  4. Under 'Select the beta you would like to opt into:', click the dropdown menu.
  5. Select 'beta - WQ Public Beta' to opt-in to the current beta release. Select 'None' to opt-out of beta, returning you to the early access release.
    • Image
  6. Steam will begin to download the public beta build if you opted-in, or it will revert to the early access release if you opted-out. You can now close out of the properties interface.
  7. While you are opted-in to a beta build, 'WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition' should now have '[beta]' appended. It should now display 'WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition [beta]' in your library.

Nothing interesting happens.
