Getting A "disk1.cab" Error?

Post by valkea » Fri Oct 14, 2011 10:12 am

So, many people are having trouble installing WQ 2.5. This should hopefully help =D

The cabinet file 'disk1.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.

Are you getting the above error message? Well, if you are, it's actually pretty easy to fix! Just keep reading~

Corrupt Download

This is the most common source of the disk1.cab error. When you downloaded 2.5, something went wrong with the download and the file is now corrupt. The solution? Re-download the game and make sure the file is exactly 214MB. Nothing less, nothing more. 214MB. When you re-download the game, it's recommended to downloaded from server two or three. Most people are using server one, and the result of this is slow download speeds. Not as many people use two or three, so the download is faster.

Your Internet Browser

The browser you use to use the internet could also be an issue. Now, it isn't that likely that this is the problem, however it's still a possibility. Try using Firefox(you can download it from - http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/) Firefox usually doesn't have any problems downloading files, while I've seen many people complain about having problems with Google Chrome or Internet Explorer.

Other

If you have tried both of the above solutions and it still isn't working, try reading topics in Tips Hints and Help to see if anyone else has had your problem, and if it's been fixed. If you can't find anything, don't be afraid to post a new topic asking for help!

Running Check Disk

Post by oxoDestinyoxo » Sun Dec 04, 2011 2:11 pm

(Feel free to merge this with the "Getting a 'disk1.cab' error?" thread, since this is an alternate solution to it.)

This is an alternate solution to the disk1.cab error many people get when installing WolfQuest or other Software. Check this quote from Microsoft to check your disk files to see if the error lies with them, rather than the game.

Method 1:
You can try saving the download to a different drive on the hard drive other than C: drive and see if it works.

Method 2: Run Check disk to fix any bad sectors on the hard drive.
a. Open the Command Prompt window by clicking the Start button, clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, and then right clicking Command Prompt.
b. At the command prompt type chkdsk /f and then press enter.
Now, type in chkdsk /r and press enter.
c. Restart the computer and check.

Note: CHKDSK would try to recover bad sectors on the hard disk, during this process there are chances of DATA loss from that particular sector, so you can take a backup before running checkdisk.
