Wolves are a protected species in hole Germany since 1990.
But back then there where not a single Wolf.
The first Wolf in Germany was reported in 1998 in Lusatia.
And the first pack established there in the year 2000.
Since then the number of wolf is increasing every year.
Today (2016) there are 46 packs and 15 paars in Germany.
Also there are lifestock compansation in some regions.

EDIT: I don't know if anybody here cares, but the number of wolfs in germany is increasing year by year.
Today there are 73 packs and 31 paars and last spring at least 267 pups were born.
