Without the wolves we would lose a natural balance between most living organisms. The erradication of the gray wolves in Yellowstone National Park is an excellent example. When Yellowstone lost its wolves elk learned that their top predator, the gray wolf, was no longer a threat, and began to graze in large herds and longer durations without moving to another location. They particularly targeted areas near streams and aspen or cottonwood groves. Sapplings were unable to grow and mature into adult trees, and their populations grew smaller and smaller over time. Without these types of trees the beaver population began to decrease as well. Songbirds that also relied on young sapplings and brushes started to disappear. By reintroducing a few wolves from Canada and other places and letting them acclimate to their new home, we now have at least 20 or more packs of gray wolves in YNP.

I like wolves for their intelligence and strength. Their misunderstood as killers like the big, bad, wolf. They are human-like with emotions and humans are taking them down. I don't want them to die out just so we can get fur coats. It's not right. Oh and Songdog, their not boring!

Well said, The Dragon Heart :) I agree many people don't understand wolves and fail to see them as the majestic, agile, interesting creatures they really are.

I love wolves and I plan for it to stay that way.

Wolves are a primitive species , wild dogs, not tamed... the ability to roam. and the power they hold within, this is a very questionable species,
and you never know what they will do next,
pure blood, but the fact that they are rare as well...
this species is most rarest of the untamed dogs, which links to mans best friend.
Lush fur... and their abilities are unlimited...
--Furry 4 Ever--
there is an animal within each of us, we just have not recognized it yet,...
I have...

Everyone are saying wolves are over-marketed, but in the seven schools in my area I only know one other wolf-lover. And plus, the over used ones are the wierd fan-fics and the Glitter/Disney dogs. Most people who claim they like wolves don't actually know anything about them.

Now back on topic, I love wolves because they're strong, fast, and well, wild. People misuse them and I decided at a very young age that I wouldn't be like them. Also all the other first, second graders were afraid that wolves would eat them (I still get this problem, even in sixth grade) and since I love argueing, I set myself on learning as much as humanly possible and proving them wrong. I even pursuaded my teachers not to read books thats et wolves in bad light, such as "Little Red Riding Hood." So in all I started loving them because nobody else did.

Wolves all the way because they are very spiritual and have been a favorite of Native American tribes for centuries. Wolves live in close-knit family packs almost like humans, and are loyal to one another. They mate for life and BOTH parent wolves give the love and care to their young the way all species should through my eyes.

I agree with this %100.
Most people think wolves are just animals, so what's wrong with creating Sparkledogs and strange Disney wolves? But, even though they're canines, it doesn't mean that you know everything about them. You know they live in a pack, but that's about the only thing people pay attention to these days. :/ And I only have one friend who knows a decent amount of information of wolves, and likes them.

Ehem, yeah, I think a point has been made about playing a more realistic game? Yes, that's a reason why I love WolfQuest. For its realism. And if there was a game about lions, or deers, or any animal for that matter, that has the same level of realism in it, I'd love to play that too. :D

Totally agree in with the first part. I know nobody who would even pay attention to wolves, or even like them. They believe the stupid fairy tales. They're evil, bandits, killers, they have to be shot. The people who think that kind of stuff should be shot.

So, why do i love them? Everything I say - they're spiritual, majestic, proud, brave, free - those are all just excuses. I just love them for what they are, without any stories that either show wolves as evil, either as the great saviors of the world. THEY DON'T EVEN NEED THAT. THEY ARE LOVED BECAUSE THEY ARE SIMPLY WOLVES.
To be a wolf lover is to love beauty.
To see a wolf is to be a wolf lover.
To touch a wolf is to be a wolf at heart.
To run with wolves is to be a wolf.

I spotted a picture of one on a trip to Canada (3 years before I moved) and it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. It was at a Native American reserve place (can't remember which). There was alot of wolf stuff and I loved it all, so I whent back to my aunts and found out information how they 'whernt the scary man eating creatures under my bed' and I literally FELL in love with them.

Wolves are the most social animal in the world, after humans, some may argue wolves are even more social. So in a sense we are closely related to wolves and can relate and compare ourselves to them in many ways. This is why I believe many people are very interested in them, a lot more than they used to be.

Same,WolfSpirit57, I have six schools around my area and Im the only person who is passionate about wolves! Btw i love wolves because they are faster, stronger ect. then the domestic dog. And wolves are in the natural state that the world put them in the first place.

Songdog wrote:Wolves are boring, over-marketed, and cliche. I like coyotes and deer. Deer are more aesthetically interesting for me, and coyotes are more clever, more adaptable, and can be more diverse than wolves. Plus they look cooler.

Wonder why I'm here then...
"See me for what I am, not as you wish to use me," is the silent cry of wilderness, of wolf, whale, forest, and ocean alike." -Michael W. Fox, The Soul of the Wolf.

It's not fair to other species to judge them based on abstract human concepts such as marketing and cliches. These things are not wolves.

Coyotes and wolves share a lot of similar behaviors, being canids. Whilst coyotes are impressive in their ability to adapt to extreme persecution and human altered landscapes. Wolves are one of the most adaptable species on the earth. Whilst coyotes are found only in the New World, before gray wolves were killed off and extirpated from many regions, they once had the widest distribution of any land mammal. Wolves could be found in ecosystems as varied as the desert, temperate rainforest, arctic tundra, boreal woodlands, steppe, and others. They are thus brilliantly adaptable to natural environments. Perhaps more so than the coyote who could only be found east of the Mississippi after the near eradication of the wolf and the human altering of habitat.

As for appearances. Form follows function. All species have been shaped by their interactions with each other and the environment.

Love coyotes almost as much as I do wolves and ravens.

I also love wolves because of how they live,I mean,I once whent to my grandma's house and there were some books about mammals in a very ooolldd bookshelf,I looked for wolves in the book(LOL it's the first animal I look for)and it said that they are voracious, blood thirsty creatures that are very dangerous to hikers in winter. That these "howling devils wouldn't have mercy upon anything that crosses its path"and that when "one member of the pack is sick or injured, they would jump upon it,kill it and eat their deffensless comrade".Of course that when I read this I started pointing out all of the wrong information about wolves...
Now,I read this book about animals that was published like in,what 2006?Well,it said that "Wolves are impressive and intelligent animals, they play an extremely important role in nature by keeping elk and moose populations healthy. They where once almost hunted to extinction in North America, bla bla bla"I'm very happy that people that read this kind of modern books today are going to have correct information about this beautiful creatures.
I do not agree that wolves are "over-marketed"I mean,in my whole life I haven't met anyone that really likes wolves at all, only two adults that new lots about wolves.
I have been in the USA for a year and in the school I was I never new of anyone that at all new anything about wolves.
I also think they are more varied, you can find wolves an all kinds of colors, from black to white, from gray to brown.I think that they are smarter than other canids, social beings are uasually more inteligent than those that are lonely or that live in groups of 3 to 4,for example, people are social and, well, you know we are very intelligent, you know monkeys, gorillas, and, well, wolves aren't an exeption. They also have a brain 30% larger than that of dogs.
And,because thay are strong, powerful, big and just majestic,I like, big, strong carnivore and intelligent animals, but wolves are really my favorite.
Yeah, they might be cute puppies, but they will grow and they will have to hunt and kill to survive,if you don't accept that, you can't fully understand and love wolves.
I hate when people say"Aww!!!They kill innocent little bunnies and eat them!!!They are very bad,how can they do that?I don't like carnivores!!!"I mean, these people just don't understand how nature works...
Never fear shadows. They simply mean there's a light shining somewhere nearby
