What should I do if someone's being inappropriate?

Post by WQ Coordinator » Mon Apr 19, 2010 4:09 pm

If you see anyone using inappropriate language or behavior, please report them! Here's how:
1) Find out their username(s). Usernames are displayed when someone first enters the chat, as each user posts in the chat, and is also displayed over their wolf character's head. It is also recorded in the chat log.*
2) Get proof. Take a screen shot** of the inappropriate behavior and/or find the chat log and save it on your computer desktop (or somewhere you can easily find it) before opening a new WolfQuest game.
3) Send an abuse report. E-mail abuse@wolfquest.org and don't forget to include the username and screen shot/chat log with the e-mail by either uploading the picture to a photo sharing website and including the link (preferred) or attaching the screenshots/output log to the e-mail. All abuse reports are confidential.
4) Feel good about keeping WolfQuest great! If inappropriate behavior gets out of hand, we may have to remove chatting in multiplayer games, which we do not want to do.

We also started a whole forum devoted to WolfQuest Game Reporting, which includes tips on how to send a good report, specifics on what kind of behavior to report, and more. Please visit it at: http://www.wolfquest.org/bb/viewforum.php?f=63.

*How to find the chat log: before restarting the game, find the chat log.
On Windows, you can find the chat log under C:\\Program Files\WolfQuest\Data\output_log.txt.
On Mac OSX, you can find it in an application called "Console" which you can find in the Applications/Utilities folder. Launch that app, then in the left side window, under "Database Searches" and "Files" scroll down until you see "Unity" (It's nested inside FILES/~/Library/Logs, so twirl those open if they're not already). Then click on Unity/Player.log and copy the contents of the big window into an email.

If you don't find the chat log there, try this fix:
  • 1. Right click on the program icon
    2. Choose "Run as Administrator"
    3. Confirm the action in any Windows pop-ups
    4. Proceed as usual and you'll be able to find the Output_Log in the WolfQuest program files.
To make the change permanent so you don't have to do this every time:
  • 1. Right click on the program icon
    2. Choose "Properties"
    3. In the "Compatibility" tab, click "Advanced"
    4. Check the box near the bottom for "Run Program as Administrator"
    5. You may still have to confirm the action for Windows each time you open WolfQuest, depending on the settings.
**How to take a screen shot: Press the 1 key on your keyboard. That should take a screenshot and save it in your WolfQuest folder. Or,
for Windows: hold down the shift key and push the 'print screen' button near the top of your keyboard. Release both keys. Open a writing/drawing/publishing program (like word or paint) and click on paste. Save the file and send it, with your abuse report, to admin@wolfquest.org.
for Mac: press Command + Shift + 3. This should save a screenshot on your desktop.
