How to help your neighboorhood lake (if you have one)

Post by Yellowie100 » Sat Jun 05, 2010 7:42 pm

Hey, everyone. IF THERE IS A TOPIC LIKE THIS PLEASE LOCK!
It's me. And most of us have a lake in our community, right? If you don't, help another neighboorhood's lake or any lake. But anyways, if you have a lake in your neighboorhood, it's probably gross. I mean, too much algae by the shore, cans and bottles are in the lake and sometimes fish are belly-up.
Here is how you can help your lake.

1.Pick up trash that's near the shore. It can fall in there any moment. If the trash is in the water, simply take it out (as long as you don't have to swim to it). It's ok to get your hands dirty! Pick it up even if you didn't put it there.
2.Clear out some of the algae. Not too much because bottem feeders eat it sometimes. I mean, algae is just plain gross when it has covered up half of your lake! Just use those nets that are used to clean pools or a regular, large plain old net.
3.No dumping in sewers, please! Because the trash in the sewers goes to the lake, I think and then it kills wildlife and drty ups the water. Dirty water sometimes means dirty drinking water...

I have two empty slots where you can help me think of more tips. IF THIS IS AGAISNT THE RULES OR ALREADY A TOPIC LIKE THIS PLEASE LOCK OR IF IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.

Yes, i hate seeing dirty lakes, although i do not live near a lake, i have a river in my backyard, and if i see trash in it, I take it out. As long as i dont have to go swimming.

There is a lake next to our community. And every year the school (for community service) makes us clean the lake. I don't mind at all, in fact, i'm rather happy that i can help the environment out, a little bit.
It's rewarding and so worth it to watch the ducks, and feed them bread.

My summer house is near a lake, and it's actually a very large lake, maybe a few miles across. Whenever the wind picks up and a storm blows in, the waves get large and throw up a bunch of trash onto the beach. It's surprising how much there is, and I try my best to pick it up (mostly, my mom makes me XD)

It also helps if you use no insecticides/herbicides. Those leech into the water via the soil, and has a tremendous impact on the ecosystem and environment as a whole.

An alternative can be pickling vinegar (7% acetic acid); it works just as well and it's not harmful at all!

I have a neighborhood lake and its ALL dirtied up
with trash. So I think I could convince my family to do That!
thats an awesome Idea, Buddy!

I always have loved to help nature...
and when I do, It feels good. Theres lots of very little fish In the lake
In my neighborhood, and so I really do think It would help to clean out the place by picking'
up trash.

I actually volunteer to help clean up our small neigbourhood river. My job is to walk up and down the river picking up trash. I get a badge after working there for 40 hours that says I have helped the community. ^ ^

It's nice to see so many people who help clean up nature places. Even by picking up a piece of trash in the city will help. A little goes a long way.

I went for a bit yesterday, and it gets dirty, fast. While we were there, someone threw their garbage at us. Our guide, went up and talked to the person. After about five minutes he too came down and started to clean up the river. One of my friends asked him why he came to clean, and it turned out that the person loved frogs, and he didn't want any of the frogs' water to get polluted, so he joined the team. =D

No, he threw the garbage into the river, and it was a large bag full of coffee cups, bags, food, ect. Like a whole garbage bag. It exploded when it hit the river and everything started to flow downstream. Luckily, he felt bad for the frogs so he helped us, and joined later on.
