100 Ways to Help Animals and the Earth

Post by Pacific » Sat Apr 11, 2009 1:53 pm

I had a good idea yesterday, what if we came up with 100 things you can do to help the enviorment? Anyone can add on, and I will do my best to copy them all the this list. Here are a few to start with:

1. Get your dog/cats from an animal shelter, not a breeder.
Animal shelter pets are just as good and loving as bred dogs, if not more. By adopting a pet it gives the animal a new life andit is also often cheaper.
2. Spay and neuter your pets so they will not have any unwanted babies.
3. Turn off the lights when you leave the room
4. Recycle all you can.
5. Plant a tree.
6. If you're buying something small from a store, ask for them to not give you a bag.
7. Divide every material of your house and recycle them.
8. Give speaches to kids about global warning and animal conservation.
9. Try to be an example for younger kids be their influence (good one).
10. When brushing your teeth, make it without water, just for removing the toothpaste.
11. Make decoractions for your house with rubbish items, instead of throwing them to the garbage.
12. Participate in Earth Saving activities.
13. Help with stream restoration.
14. Turn off the lights.
15. Use daylight instead of lights.
16. Don't feed wild animals.
17: Use reusable bags instead of plastic ones
18: Pick up any litter you see.
19: Everytime a tree is cut down, plant a new one.
20: Put your garbage in a dumpster and not in front of your house so that none of the wild animals can get to it.
21. Get one reusable, sturdy water bottle and use it instead of getting bunches of plastic ones.
22. Don't throw food (like apple cores) out the window; mice will be attracted and preying birds could be hit by cars.
23. Compost.
24. Don't touch birds' nests.
25. Dispose of gasoline safely.
26. Don't use harmful chemicals (like fertilizer)
21. Keep your pets inside.
22. Don't stick gum outside somewhere; it's sticky and birds (when mistaking it for food) may go down to it and get stuck.
23. Get the new floresent lightbilbs, there bright and engry affficent
24. If you have the new floresent lightbulbs when they burn out bring the bac kto the store dont thorw them away they will break and the have a harmfull chemical(mercury) in them
25. Reuse plastic bags!
26. Build a pond. Endangered species of frogs, plants and more can live here, and make their speices grow.
27. Get a bird house. Nearly extinct speices of birds can nest.
28. Leave a patch of long grass- let nature take cover.
29. If you find any injured or starving animal , try to help them by giving them non-toxic food or keep that animal until you can find them a new home.
32. Make sure u dont let ur animals or other animals chew on something thats toxic or harmful
33. You can buy a book on how to help the earth and the animals and creatures who inhabit it.
34. Encourage hunters or target shooters you know to use lead free ammunition. Lead continues through the food web. Many birds and other scavengers die when they eat the carcasses of animals shot with lead ammunition (or that they themselves consumed the ammunition.)
35. Everytime you see any open sink, close it at the point that no water can escape from it.
36. Grow food so it is not waisting money.
37. If you can in winter, soak some bread and leave it on your backyard. Birds will come to eat if they see the food. This way you can help them survive.
38. Use les energey by when it's cold, Put a jumper on, if you are hot, shut the blinds.
39. Help frogs get to a pond to have their eggs by joining a frog company. It will help frogs safley.
40. Try to be voluntary in any veterinary next to your house. Just if you have time for it. It's a nice experience.

Keep it going and we can think of 100!

I think you should apport one of your ideas for posting here, Blitzar.

25. Do not fed wild animals because they might get used to people, and we know that that's not good as they go every time closer to the community and they can be killed.

Having in danger species in your house might not be the best way for helping e_e not at all.

31. If you find any injured or starving animal , try to help them by giving them non-toxic food or keep that animal until you can find them a new home.
