Generally, I use names that mean something in another language, or simply sound pretty. Some that I use include:
-Kokil (An Indian name meaning 'a cuckoonightingale')
-Kokuen (Means 'black smoke' in Japanese)
-Lilith (Derived from the Arabic term for 'of the night')
-Xavier (just a nice-sounding male name)

I do go with themes almost every time I name my wolves. Like when I named all my wolves after the wolves in a story I wrote, or giving a Lord of the Rings theme or a Narnia theme. Once I named a wolf family after the song "Edge of Night" from Lord of the Rings. (yes, I'm obsessed with LOTR) The parents were Cloud and Shade, and the pups were Mist, Shadow, and Night, but I forgot the last pup's name. :( All the words were in the song, so I used it. :)
Out of doubt, out of dark, to the day's rising
I came singing into the sun, sword unsheathing
To hope's end I ran, and to heart's breaking
Now for wrath, now for ruin and a red nightfall!

i usually just go with names from fictional characters - my most recent batch of pups were named after my favorite characters from the first law trilogy, the northmen. i went with dow, threetrees, grim and forley.

Usually I just go with nature-themed names (Hawk, Willow, Rain, etc.), because I like to think that that's how wolves would name their pups (you know, if they did, hehe). :D

Usually I name them along whatever theme I've chosen for their parents, and they're all pretty '13-year-old neck deep in their sparkle-dog phase' in nature. Herbs, celestial bodies, precious minerals, things like that. More recently, I made a pack with a naming theme of Werewolves in popular fiction (plus other human/wold and human/dog hybrids like Inuyasha and Jade Harley). It is all aggressively silly. It's still fun though :D

I put my comment in a spoiler because the comment is long.
Show
I combine words quite a bit. Like combining rock+feather to get roather. Choosing names this way also lets me use multiple themes.
A theme I have been using is Halloween+Plant/Nature and some names that I have used with this method are:
~~~Skleaf: Skeleton+Leaf
She is a white-furred (P0C4) player wolf.
~~~Glade: Grass+Blade
He is an orange-pelted (P0C2) wolf.
~~~Treblit: Treble+Light
He was a white-coated (P0C4) pup.
~~~Spookyte: Spooky+Ite
She was a white-pelted (P0C4) pup.
~~~Darelt: Dark+Melt
He was a brown-coated (P0C2) pup.
~~~Stormoo` AKA Stormoorai: Storm+Moon+Rain
She is a brown-pelted (P0C2) pup, but I made her into an orange-pelted (P0C2) wolf.

I chose names that I really liked for the pups, so when they died I would be sadder, but when they lived I would like them even more.

Maybe I could name a pup Bob, or Noprob Bob (After Lapis Lazuli from the show Steven Universe).
I usually don`t name the pups names that I have already used for pups.
Sometimes I get lazy or name them too late and the pups stay with the names:
Puppy1|F
Puppy2|F
Puppy3|M
Puppy4|F
(The F or M at the end depends on the gender of the pup)

Sometimes, I prefer to use the names of stars. Or dawn, dusk, eclipse, asteroid, etc.

So, do you like to use a theme when naming your pups (for example, types of fruit), or do you just come up with random names of the top of your head?

I would commonly just give them random names, although once I start playing 2.7, I will begin to use themes!

I entirely make mine up! I created characters that I write stories on (Anthropomorphic) and I use names from Wolf characters. :fox:

Well, I just name them using coat colors. But......I have 2.5.1, so the coats are 3 black, and 1 white. :roll:

The other day I was in a server and everyone in the game was naming their pup after a Harry Potter character, but there was one person in there who didn't get it. I named my pup Draco, and he came out ginger, and that one person had no idea why we all found it hilarious.

I usually use whatever theme comes to my head at the time.

Haha! That sounds hilarious! Silly Draco, you're supposed to be blond, not ginger!

The first time I played I named the mate Fenrir after the norse wolf god. The main wolf was named ruby. 2 pups were norse themed and 2 were mineral themed. Thor, Tyr, Gypsum, and Opal.

I usually fall back on Latin or Gaelic names depending on the wolf though on occasion I name my pups or wolves after characters I like, usually a mix of obscure and/or Lord of the Rings characters.

In co-op games I usually try to follow any sort of naming theme to keep it consistent, depending on what others call their pups.

I use seasons, characters from movies and books, but normally I just pick out random cool names I like.

Usually when I'm playing with friends we name the pups after food (Bean, Taco, Fries, etc) just so if we got the end glitch we could sacrifice them to the river.
On my own I just pick random names that come to mind. Clover is the one I use most.
