We have many neat codes now. It'd be useful to have a topic that lists them all with examples!

I did add to Zethra's BBCode thread some time ago with all our custom codes in addition to explanations of predefined codes that weren't covered in the first post. I keep it up-to-date with every new code we add. ;)

It's the start of July! Later this month will be the 11th forum anniversary... so why bring this up now? We have a little announcement to make concerning the future schedule for our Celebrating # years of WQ anniversary usergroup...

On the 25th of July 2018, we will be closing the group down and purging it of all members. It will be updated and we shall re-open it so that it may continue to run in celebration of every five-year milestone, but it will only run for one year with each return. You can expect to see it return in 2022 for the 15th forum anniversary (if the WolfQuest project and its community is still going strong by that time) with the usual colour poll, perhaps accompanied by an opening for gallery avatar submissions with sufficient activity and interest.

If I had FTP access, I'd've added and later removed it because it it would've been such a temporary thing. Speaking of pink, it's time for round 2 to end.

I mean... it'll most likely return next year. Maybe as an April side event, or maybe as something else. Who knows! Whatever happens, the good old Stick Cult will not be allowed to die off so easily. :P I think it's fair to say that the pink will likely be a limited time event if we have time for it each year just to keep things from getting too crazy. I should add that it is already a permanent group on the WQ Discord server, which isn't going to change. ^^

Not so much as a proposition for the forums, but an announcement and suggestion for all users:

It has come to our attention that forum spambots now make use of the PM feature to send out automatically generated SPAM messages. Up until now, spambots only attempted to make forum posts, which the moderator team has been able to block before they came into public view. The bots would be banned soon after. We cannot, however, prevent them from sending out private messages.

On the occasion any of you receive a spambot generated PM, please make use of the report feature (visible in PMs as well as in regular posts - click the yellow triangular button with an exclamation mark on it) and make sure to not click any links in the PM or on the spambot profile. That way we can make sure the spambots are dealt with and banned as soon as possible.

As a general note, spambots are easily recognisable by their usernames and profiles: the usernames are usually either complete gibberish or a generic name with some numbers, and the profiles tend to be filled out very generically and almost always link to one or more websites. If you see one a suspicious account browsing the online list, also feel free to PM a moderator with a link to their profile.

Let's hope it won't be necessary, but if it will be - thanks in advance!

We could prevent accounts within the Newly Registered Users group from being able to send private messages without affecting inbox management and reading received messages. I doubt this solution would be popular with those who only use the forums for private messaging, so it isn't worth considering without a workaround for legitimate human account holders who don't want to post. We could probably set something up for people to submit a request for removal from the newly registered setting.

If there's a simple way for people to request removal from the group, I definitely think this is a good idea...

I just realized how little the community team uses WQ News & Announcements... I'm thinking about removing the announcement status of "Multiple Accounts Are Prohibited" soon™ and relocating it to that forum. Thinking about Lotte's post — would it be worth posting a PSA topic there until a decision has been made about this potential PM change? I admit that I hardly ever think about WQ N&A; up until now, I've always considered it more for game-related news even knowing that WQ3 has a dedicated forum of its own, and the forum itself does specify that it is a place for forum news and changes as well.

Alternatively, would it be worth considering a "forum news"-esque thread that could be an announcement set to replace "Multiple Accounts Are Prohibited"? Ideally the intention for it would be to post important forum news that doesn't warrant a brand new thread (with an index containing brief summaries for each post along with a permalink). Looking at the view counts, announcements seem to have gained far more views than standard topics, so it may be easier for those who are less familiar with forum hierarchy to find and read through the most important news without having to do a lot of browsing around.

Either way, we'd still be relaying forum-specific news that might go unnoticed in this thread. It's just a random sleep-deprived thought. ^^
