Would it be better to amend Media and Literature to house them, then? That could work better since they'll be alongside other discussion threads rather than actual shops. If you anticipate that these discussion threads are going to become buried under shops, then I imagine that you also anticipate that these threads will not be as active on their own, which is why I cannot justify giving them their own subforum when we already have so many existing subforums.

You know how There's a little button on the bottom every post that let's you shoot back up to the top of that page? What if there's one at the TOP of every post that let's you shoot to the BOTTOM of that page… for the one's who don't want to skroll all the way down. Just a thought, not really important.

my issue is not that these threads won't be active, but the shops do move very quickly. also it would be potentially confusing to a new user trying to order an avatar or whatnot, to have discussion threads in the same area. i can see requests being made in the actual discussion ones.
media and literature might work, with amending.

Would this potential subforum be any less active than Domestic Dogs, Sports/Adventure/Travel, or Take Action though?

I'll take the Media and Literature option too, however.

An art subforum would certainly not be less active than the forums you mentioned (with the exception of Domestic Dogs, I think), DaniBeez, but that’s my point. We have enough subforums— small, niche ones that are inactive already— and I don’t see the point in adding another one that stands alone. Remember that we ended up consolidating the Music subforum into Media and Literature, and that was more active than the subforums you listed. I think keeping down the subforum clutter is ideal, especially if the subforum does not pertain to the game or to wolves in some way. I do expect game-related subforums to change as WolfQuest 3’s development progresses and I think some flexibility needs to be allowed in that regard until things become more finalized, but other than that, I do not foresee the addition, or removal of, low-priority boards for now outside the context of consolidation.

My first thought regarding the art discussion was moving it to Media and Literature as well. Maybe just rename the board and squeeze an "art" in there.

...in my 9 years of being here I've never noticed that button. I don't think adding a similar button in the opposite direction would be worth the hassle as I doubt it's something phpBB natively supports. The "End" key on your computer keyboard should serve the same purpose.

"Art, Media, & Literature" has a nice ring to it.

I don't have a computer, and as I said, it's not important, just a random thought.

Lol! If it would help, since my account isn't that old, I could quickly get with a list of topics that are in the GOTD area currently that could be moved to this new area.

I wasn't a mod when that was initially made, but my guess is it created place for topics about different outdoorsy/physical activities to be in one place. I agree it's not terribly popular, probably because there is such a diversity of activities between users, but it's still a logical grouping of topics. It's probably just an artefact of an old organization idea at this point :P .

In general, I think there's no true answer to how a forum should be organized; lumping or splitting, it's all a matter of opinion.

My suggestion: Add a upvote, (and perhaps downvote) option for each post. This would help the WolfQuest team gauge how much interest and agreement each user's suggested idea has, both in this thread and the game suggestion thread.

Not a lot we can do about requests that require modifications to the software, but I've added it to the first post regardless; the closest thing to upvotes and downvotes is the reputation system modification.

If ever the team were to upgrade to a newer release of phpBB, some of these things would be much easier to implement thanks to the introduction of extensions among other perks and fixes. I've adjusted the note for suggestions tagged in purple on the front post to reflect that.

Plus it is rare for anyone to choose that forum when board moderators are reassigned/new modlets are assigned. I think only 2-3 mods ever took it on in its lifetime...? In any case it may be time to consider whether or not it is worth keeping, though its contents will be swept into relevant forums if it does end up being removed.

Unfortunately it's not going anywhere.

Make the boards in Other Topics only viewable for those logged in. While it makes perfect sense to have the wolf- and wildlife boards accessible to everyone, I think the sections with discussions more personal to the members might as well be shielded off to lurkers with no account.

Pets & Domestic Animals is the only board not viewable without an account, to my knowledge. I'm going to assume this is not necessarily intentional, but it did make me realise the entirety of the community forums are otherwise visible without requiring logging in.

Yeah, that, its subforum and the Zoos and Other Wildlife Parks/Preserves forum are visible to guests, but can only be read by those logged in with registered accounts. Those are the only three that I know of; the only category whose forums are not visible to guests but can be read/accessed via direct link or jump function are the archives. The only intention there was to minimize clutter on the board index. ^^

Gonna start revising guest permissions within the Other Topics category... Done. At least that's one more item crossed off the "revise forum permissions" list. x_x

The only forum that remains unaffected by this change is Other Video Games due to the presence of the other wolf/animal games thread, but let me know if that isn't enough reason to leave it as the only exception for the Other Topics category.
