What chat type is the better of the three?

Post by Windstrider » Mon Aug 27, 2012 1:53 pm

Vote on which chat type you think is better! For example, here is my list:

1) Disabled. I like the peace and quiet, and it's the most realistic.
2) Lexicon. Even though its restrictions are very frustrating, it's still the best of the three for chatting.
3) Phrase. To me, phrase is boring because by the time you actually piece together a sentence, what little 'discussion' there is has already moved to a different subject. It's better for the younger WQ members, but for those of us that are 12 and up (and/or much more mature than our age) find it boring.

Well to me Lexicon chat was the only basic chat used throughout wolfquest since the beginning I believe.
Having a new update and with Phrase chat, someone would have to get used to it.
As for the disabled chat, that only thing to do is goof around or hunt, can't do much unless you could do some sort of body language, other than that I choose to stick with the Lexicon chat.

Well, I do like lexicon chat, even when people bypass the chat filter. This is a very interesting topic,
Faolan. I love disabled chat sometimes because you can take screenies of random users without the chat there. :-})

Thanks for replying, Shade! I definately have to agree with you that lexicon and possibly disabled are the best! :D

Actually, the reason I was most excited for 2.5 was the option for the disabled chat. (: I am having some trouble deciding though; if you want to talk to others or roleplay then pretty much definitely lexicon chat, though disabled chat can be fun with roleplay as well. I am very partial to the disabled chat, honestly.

Lol, me too! I sometimes do disabled chat when I'm sick of other wolves always asking me to be their mate, asking for genders, etc. I also do phrase chat sometimes, but usually lexicon.

  • Wow, so far an overwhelming lead by the Lexicon!

I found the phrase chat to be too slow for my patience level, so I'll also say I prefer the Lexicon and even disabled over Phrased.

I prefer the lexicon chat over the other two. Why? Because I am used to talk openly, not only "wolf" related.

Yeah, me too! I hope my word gets accepted into the lexicon, because it's my wolf name and the name pretty much everyone calls me. It's also just plain a popular wolf name, and besides, I'm sick of my username lol :)

I always disable the chat.

I just hunt on MP and don't want to read my game-mates bickering.

I tend to prefer either the lexicon chat or disabled chat.

Obviously the lexicon chat has the least amount of restrictions out of the current choices, which is why I like it the most. It's nice to be able to talk about something that wouldn't be in the normal topic of conversation and the like. Whereas when I normally use the disabled chat it's just for fun with a group of friends to enjoy the game itself, pretty entertaining in right kind of mood.

Of course I'm not saying the phrased chat is horrible in any way, just doesn't suit me. I think it's perfect for very young members and people who cannot speak English very well.

  • Since I don't play the game anymore, I have a question for those who do^^. Do games with disabld chats get much traffic? Or is it signifigantly lower? Higher?

I'd probably enjoy just hunting like crazy on a disabled chat game, but I can't host because of my firewall :( .

It seems quite a bit lower, and sometimes people join, look around for a minute, and leave almost immediately. :( Some people will stay though, and when that happens it can be really fun. :)

I'd have to agree with Lexwolf (you ninja). From what I've observed, they aren't very popular. Probably the least used out of the three types I'd have to say. Although I'm not completely positive whether or not they attract a large amount of people. When I've hosted or joined disabled chats there is no way of telling when someone joins besides their in-game nametag, which some people can miss, or if you actually see/hear their wolf in one way or another.

I agree that Phrase Chat is better for the younger members, but I always prefer Lexicon chat because it's more open-discussion. But sometimes I prefer disabled if I'm sick of the chat filter not letting me say my wolf's name (Denali) and other everyday words. I also like to use disabled if I've had enough of people being rude, breaking rules, or asking for/discussing mates. I might host a WQ Anniversary game later, too
