Active Players

Post by Ashemo » Tue Sep 06, 2011 11:17 pm

I'm probably posting in the wrong discussion, so sorry in advance for that. This just seemed like the right place. :P Anyway, I was wondering how many people play actively? Because I feel completely alone in the game. I know that it's because I have really slow internet, but I only met two people, and before I could figure out how to reply with a "hello" (which I did learn), they got disconnected because of my internet. I'm getting new internet hopefully within the next week or two, but I was wondering how many people play actively, and in what age-range, because I know that a lot of stuff was changed because of parents' complaints.

Thank you for your time. :)

Hmm, to be honest, i never really play the game anymore. It's pretty much consisted of wolfaboos and terrible roleplayers :c But my internet is horrendous, so that's also a reason.

I'm waiting for the phrased chat to come out in 2.5, and til I come home from college, because I don't think they'd appreciate me poking holes in my fire wall

While there are no concrete numbers as to how many people actively play WolfQuest and how old they are, I can cite a few statistics for you to get an idea.

As of this posting there are 346,790 users registered on the WolfQuest community forums since they opened in the summer of 2007. In order to play multiplayer, you have to register on the forums. That means that over 300,000 have at least looked at the forums or played the game once. Obviously many people have "grown out" of the game, play rarely, or only post on the forums. That still leaves room for hundreds or even thousands of people that play on a fairly regular basis.

The target age-range for WolfQuest is 10-13 years old (source: http://www.wolfquest.org/bb/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=34819) so I would assume many players are around those ages. Somewhere in there would be a typical age for a WolfQuest player. There's also a rather large group of 14-17 year olds who play.

Since there are so many players and little groups or packs that form on the game, you might feel like it's hard to join in. I find the Pack Central board is usually good to start you off, as you'll find many groups that are based around playing the multiplayer game. Eventually you'll find a few people who you know you can play with and things get a bit easier. ;)

I still actively play but i kind of cut down some because of all the powerplayers and the mating rps or how ever they say it now.
Hunting is not destruction and i get annoyed by people all ways going like: OOO your killing the animals!
I just say: No. its population managment, and could someone who hates animals know so much about them?

I used to play this game for hours every day last winter. My family didn't like it though and I got bored of it. I realized that you can only run, hunt and run some more in MP. And chat. It's boring. Now I'm also waiting for 2.5 to come out and that is one reason too. Oh, there are so many reasons...

- Terrible roleplayers
- I always get kicked out when I finally get to a game (aren't they OPEN games?!)
- Annoying people that can't really play (it's not their fault, but still...)
- Everyone just ignore me..

You get the idea, right?

Yes i do XD the people who don't play good usually are either new or they just want to annoy you.
What i do if some one try's acting like a n00b to annoy me i just act like an even bigger one.
And the ignoring part is usually because your chat thingy crashes they might be talking and you just cant hear em this happens to me a lot.

Yes, well I guess I'm active. I've been held back on the PC and videogames because I recently started school. Yes I'd have to agree with the age group of 10-13 or 14-17. I've met people here that are almost every age on that scale. But sometimes I dont play because of

-horrible rp'ers
-rude or mean people
-people who dont even say anything and run around like a bunch of wolfaboons!

(lol wolfaboons credit to the person in this topic who came up with WOLFABOOS)

So yeah. :|

Your question is justified Ashemo, and I would like to provide you with my own experiences on WQ Multiplayer.

You will come to realize that you rarely ever meet the same people twice on MP; this compliments Larkarl's projections. I have only had this phenomenon happen to me twice, and both times that was within one session (one hour), probably because people jump to a new server so frequently.

I have only came across one 'regular' (a person who posts at least once a week on the forums) before, and this was an unplanned meeting.

Larkarl's advice in exploring Pack Central is good, since doing so will allow you to get to know other potential players better and find out which packs/users actually play MP,]; keep in mind not all of them do.

In short, I wouldn't try too hard to find people on the forums that play the game often; because of the multi-server nature of the game you will most likely be playing with new people every time you join a MP server.

common age group is 10 to 20, but it seems that there are actually more people in the 14-20 range. As for the amount of people that play regularly, somewhere in the hundreds.

You get the idea, right?

Yes I totally agree, I used to play so much back in 09 when no one had to worry about power playing that was going on. But now, it seems to get worse, whenever I join Rps there is always someone who has wings, mood color eyes, extended claws and/or fangs, or an element creator. Usually this will occur in realistic Rps and the people who tend to power play get angry at everyone, which causes a big argument on how to play in the games. Especially reporting others just because they have powers, and try to report the *realistic ones* just to show they were power playing themselves, when no one really wasn't, unless proof is taken.

As for the others, the saving spots obviously occurs a lot but I am always friendly and leave, unless that person doesn't show up again. if the host knows they will crash, they should at least have a back-up plan and create a private game just in case, like I do.

I always have the problem where someone doesn't play right,(unless their new and have no idea about the game yet...) anyways, whenever we role-play, like I RP what I'm doing like (follows a wolf, or approaches cautiously) apparently the person would go, and say I told everyone to stay away from me, you don't listen do you? O.o it bugs me, cuz its RP your supposed to know what people are up to.
Once again, thanks for sharing your opinion, I honestly appreciate it and have the same exact happenings as well for everyone else ^^
