It's a golden eagle. It is scientific known that golden eagles kill and eat wolf pups.

I say Golden Eagle now, it does look like it up close :D

Like so many have said before me... the predatory bird in Slough Creek is indeed (in my opinion, anyway) a Golden Eagle; indentified by its solid dark brown plumage and prefrence for wolf pups
