The first thing you look at on a new post?

If Its someone I don't know, i usually take a glance at the Avatar before looking on to the post and signature. If it's someone I'm familiar with--take Kamaal for example--i'll likely gaze at the post and the signature first.

As Tsuri said, if it's someone I know (like the fuzz above) I'll read the post first without looking at the avatar and/or signature for too long.
