What You Have Learned From WolfQuest

Post by Aurora Alaska » Tue Jul 21, 2009 3:57 pm

What have you learned from WolfQuest? I have always thought about it, and I have decided to make it a topic. I'm not very familar with this forum, so I'm not certain that there isn't a topic like this. But if not, please, feel free to share!

I have learned how forums work.
i have learned alot of stuff about wolves, like that they don't sleep in dens.
I have learned about real packs.

That's just a few things . . . Anyone like to add?

I learned:

About wolf behaviour.
About Yellowstone.
That helping people isn't so bad.
Patience.

There's more, but I can't think right now.

I've learned:

That wolves bite the rear of elk to weaken them.
That they look for mates at age 2
That a pack consists of an Alpha female and male, and their pups.

Actually, Alpha isn't the correct term. The correct term is actually 'breeding pair' instead of 'Alpha pair'.

And I thought wolves try to go for the vitals of the animal, not the rear...

I do know they are a breeding pair, as they are the pups parents. I figured using the term Alpha was short and to the point.

And you misunderstand, I do know that wolves go for vital parts of the elk, but the game has broadened my ideas of how wolves bring down prey. As played on the game you can bite an elk on the rear, shoulders, or neck. I have seen wolves (on T.V discovery channel/animal planet) bite elk on the rump and hunt much better as a pack, rather then the typical knowledge you gain from wolf role play where you see one wolf run up, bite prey (usually a deer or elk) on the neck dragging the prey down by itself then ending the prey's life with one bite to the neck.

From the game-
I've learned a lot about what happens to wolves in certain ages of wolves' lives.
That wolves cannot have blue eyes, that is only for pups which is actually gray-blue.
Arctic and Mexican grey wolf (along with a few others) are subspecies of the Gray wolf.

From the forum-

I've learned about leadership and fairness and friendship.
I've learned teamwork.
How to draw better wolves along with their anatomy.
That orange looks good. xD

I have learned that wolves don't kill their own pups. I was horribly misled by this documentary "Growing up: Wolf" on Animal Planet where this one woman said that the adults would potentially kill any pups that are not their own. Of course I could've found this out via Google before here but since this is a nice resource on wolf behavior, I thought to check this out.

I also learned that the terminology alpha pair isn't correct when addressing the lead wolves of a pack. I just call them either female leader or male leader since that's basically their role besides mating.

I learned that wolves dont sleep in dens, that only the alpha's in wolf packs have pups, and that the den is used as the place where the alpha female keeps the pups for months.

I have also learned how forums work and about patience.

I learned the ranks in a pack.

I took a chance, I took a shot
And you might think I'm bulletproof but I'm not
You took a swing, I took it hard
And down here from the ground, I see who you are

heres what i've learned, its different then what you guys have put up, but i think these lessons are helpful too (these lessons i've learned are from the multiplayer game)

teamwork (ex hunting elk, cant do it by yourself)

no one is perfect (ex making your wolf, you cant be the fastest and the strongest, if u stink at one thing, ur talent shows up somewhere else)

those are all i can think of right now, can some others help me out with these kind of lessons?
