I've a new laptop now but even on this one the game doesn't work. Even not after installing certain WinRar unpack packages or joining the community I downloaded this game from. I guess I'll never be able to play this game, I'm a bit out of options here. Such a shame...

That really surprises me because your computer's specs shouldn't really matter at all o.o What exactly have you done to try to run the game? The only things you should need are essentially the WOLF .zip package and DOSBox.

I know this game! I've played it for several years now. It sounds difficult to set up at first but it's actually really easy after you've done it once. The game is fun but the facts are a bit out dated and the controls take a bit to remember. I personally prefer WolfQuest but it's still nice to play now and then.

I'm sorry if a Chromebook counts as a Mac, but would it work on a Chromebook?

I don't think WOLF will run on chromebooks. Chromebooks are designed more towards internet surfing than running games like WOLF.

This wont work, please help! :(
Ah yeah, those forums are no longer up. (scratch that, but I can't find the original topic anymore either. weird.) I'll update the first post later today and hopefully get a replacement guide up there. I'm on mobile and still half asleep now, ha. Thanks for catching that.

For now, have you downloaded DOSbox and WOLF? If you're on Windows, the simplest way of getting it to run is dragging the game folder (or at least, I think it was the folder, could just be the WOLF.exe) on top of the DOSbox executable. It should launch the game right away.

(allow me a few more hours of sleep and I'll edit this post and the first one when I've written up a new guide)
  • EDIT
Good morning... First post has been revised. Let me know what you think/if it's helpful. :)

I would love help. I feel as if I have gotten the thing to run, but when it does run, it goes to a regular black DosBox screen and says, "Thank you for playing WOLF!
Unable to register music data for file. What can I do? This is the only place where I have found a discussion for it besides the abandonia forum. I really need help and this is really frustrating me.

Edit:
This is the series of commands that I use to try and get the thing to work
mount c c:/wolf - This works
c: - this too
cd wolf - this tells me it is an illegal command. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, but on one of the tutorials that I viewed to get this to work, it worked for them.

wolf.exe - goes to the screen that tells me that the music data can't register the file.
I also try wolf>wolf and it pulls up to the same screen.

I have tried to go the the sound settings on dosbox and turning off the music/sound because that seems to be the problem.
I tried setup.exe and entered no music for the setting, but it says it can't create the file.

Do you think that I am just missing a file or something? Or that I might have accidentally moved a file to the wrong place? The mounting to the local directory works, it just pops up that screen.

I've already more or less suggested this on your help topic, but have you tried everything regarding running it as listed on the first post? I have never heard of this issue before, and it sounds like something might have gone wrong with the files you have. As of today, I can still run WOLF just fine on the latest version of DosBOX. I run a 64-bit machine as well, so the fact that WOLF technically has to run on a 32-bit shouldn't be a problem, either. Good luck, and if you want, keep me updated.

I wish I could find this game enjoyable. It gets boring after ten minutes.
