Re: Wolf Throats?

The fur around wolves' necks is thicker and longer than the fur anywhere else on their body. Fur around their neck and shoulders can reach up to four or five inches in length, during the cold season when they're wearing their winter coats. All wolves have manes around their necks, but they're not as...

Re: Male wolf VS female wolf, Whos more dominant?

I'd like to add, though, that females will display more aggression to other females than males will display to other males. This has been seen in both wild and captive packs, especially during breeding season.

Re: New Mexico abandons efforts to save Mexican Gray Wolf.

The chances basically just halved. And with the huge wildfire burning in Arizona, very close to where the Mexican gray wolves are, I'd say it's a real possibility that this entire program might end within only a few weeks or months.

What happens after that, I don't know.

New Mexico abandons efforts to save Mexican Gray Wolf.

New Mexico's Game Commission on Thursday night voted to stop assisting the federal effort to restore Mexican gray wolves in the Southwest, the latest step by new Republican Gov. Susana Martinez's administration to reverse her state's green course. Martinez appointed four new members to the six-memb...

Re: Protection of wolves in Maine debated

How about we find evidence of wolves in Maine before becoming worried about removing protections from them?

Re: "Wolf shot and killed after escaping at Minnesota Zoo"

This was a very unfortunate event, but I think it's irresponsible to say that a wild animal would have not been a threat to anyone. I personally support the zoo offcials' decision to shoot the wolf. I do agree that the wolf probably would have not attacked, but claiming that it wouldn't have been e...

Re: "Wolf shot and killed after escaping at Minnesota Zoo"

Oh goodness...that's a really sad development. I hope there weren't any plans to breed that male in the Mexican wolf conservation program.

I'm glad everybody is safe, though. x.x

Re: Canine-wildlife contact behind spurt in rabies

Unfortunate, but in my opinion, fairly preventable. If people would control their pets, then this might not be such a prominent issue. I can only see this being unpreventable in the case of a stray dog having contact with a fox or raccoon with rabies, contracting the virus, then wandering back into ...

Re: Wildlife Advocates Call on State to Suspend Wolf Killing

Yeah I'm not too thrilled with Oregon's efforts so far, either. I'm not sure how bright the wolf's future in Oregon will be. But no worries, those wolves up in the Northern Rockies certainly aren't in any danger. I wish I could see ten years into the future. I would really like this big, nasty mess ...

...and then wouldn't it just turn into a vicious de-listing/re-listing cycle? :/ I don't think they are making the right choices here. Yeah that's exactly my point. Let's compare the Mexican gray wolf population to eating at an all-you-can-eat buffet. xD If you eat just the bare minimum that you ne...

There are no wild wolves in Oklahoma. You might have seen dogs or coyotes.

Re: NM: More Wolf-killing Legislation Proposed

Just because 100 is the goal for the recovery program doesn't mean that wolves should be managed at that very low level. 100 is the bare minimum number of wolves that the recovery program calls for. Using aggressive management tactics to keep the population at that extremely low point is silly. Yes,...

Noooooo, no no no no no....100 wolves in two states is far, far too few. I was hoping for three or four hundred. :|

Ahh, I remember when I got that confirmation e-mail welcoming me to the Mod team.
