Re: Wolves kill 2 calves south of Bellevue

Hmm, well at least their trying to do something about it. Electrified night pens (sounds dangerous) maybe they aren't a bad idea, at least the sheep will be safe. Thanks for posting this, Blightwolf. But forbid if a wolf or coyote gets on one of the pens.... :( I do hope non-lethal options are used...

Re: "Killing wolves 'biologically wrong' "

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this article is definitely biased. I feel like killing wolves is fine; it's an inexpensive method, right? I wouldn't think it would be more complicated than going out and sterilizing wolves.. that doesn't seem like a better option nor more reasonable to me, pers...

Re: have you ever dreamed about being a wolf?

Q: Would this thread be more in line in one of the other sections? I'm not complaining, but when I see it next to factual articles and discussions about wolves it does kinda stick out like a sore thumb Good point, but because its relating to wolves and wouldn't exactly belong in Wolf Conservation o...

Not meaning to rain on the parade, but what about the fact these wolves have a good amount of coyote DNA in them?

Re: "Killing wolves 'biologically wrong' "

As there is no such thing as a unbiased document, I do have to agree with La Striata on this one. The fact Mr. Hayes imputed his own personal opinions and offered no solid alternative; I do have to question the article's factual correctness

Re: "Tranquilizing wolf was not an option"

As someone who works at a zoo part time, I can agree with the institutions decision to shoot the animal. Wolves are large carnivores and like any other large animal they can be totally unpredictable. Even the most powerful tranquilizers take up to 8 minutes to work fully, and by that time the wolf c...

Re: Aerial gunners kill at least 5 wolves in north-central I

Hm... Well this should thin the numbers down a bit and not make a gigantic dent in the population mass. Out of curiosity, was there any other information regarding information o the wolves? Age? Size? Gender?

Re: How close did you ever get to a wolf?

I help take care of the 2 (3 if you count the dingos) at the zoo, so I reasonably close often; though we have a rule about never going into the enclosures alone

Re: Why are we afraid of them?

It's natural to fear what can kill you. It's the same reason why we shy away from forest fires, lightning, big dogs, or a pointed gun I honestly know no one who is scared of big dogs, I love them. As the owner of two big dogs, yes I do say some people aren't But if someone saw a large breed running...

Re: Wolves blamed for killing livestock in foothills

I ask you this, give me a single reliable report that global wolf populations were ever near the endangered level and I will delete all of my comments here. I do agree with you about the ranchers needing to be respected and all that, but this topic is not about the global wolf population. It's abou...
