Maybe larger herds could have longer names and smaller herds shorter names.

I like this idea a lot, and I think possibly naming herds off off national landmarks found in Yellowstone.Draugr wrote: ↑Thu Jan 31, 2019 4:24 pmI've always liked obscure words, for example, words in Latin or Greek. However, I feel like it needs to tie in with the theme of the national park.
My ideas for naming the elk herds are the titles of the historic nomadic Native American tribes that inhabited Wyoming (where most of Yellowstone is situated).
These include the Arapaho, Arikaka, Bannock, Cheyenne, Kiowa, Sioux, Ute etc. Although, the names of the elk herds could also just be of Native American tongue.
Or name them after the developers! A quick nod to them and their years of work!

Sneaky/funny/interesting references to the game staff names! I like this idea. Something like those shops and other places in Lost River.

I'd totally like to name the herds but I'm not to good and naming these kinds of things. Good progress though.

I like the idea of naming herds after native Yellowstone Vegetation, but at the same time, I agree with giving them names that hint more at their composition rather than actual names, which seems to be more important here. Curious to see what the team comes up with.

Idk. I have no real ideas for names, I named my OC by pressing random buttons
But my idea is to name herds as if they was named by wolves.
Wolves like to howl on moon, so what about Howling Herd, Moon Herd (or Star Herd, or something like that?)

I like this idea, though I'm not sure how you would standardize this.SamueWolfSword wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 12:59 amMaybe larger herds could have longer names and smaller herds shorter names.

Re: Herd Any Good Names? (Help us name the elk herds!)
Hmm, maybe by number of syllables in the herd name? That would convert herd names into categorical data with defined ranges of deer numbers:Koa wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2019 1:54 pmI like this idea, though I'm not sure how you would standardize this.SamueWolfSword wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 12:59 amMaybe larger herds could have longer names and smaller herds shorter names.
1-syllable names for the smallest herds (1 to x number of deer)
2-syllable names for the medium sized herds (x+1 to y number of deer)
3-syllable names for the largest herds (y+1 to the maximum herd size)
But this model hinges on herds having defined numbers of deer in them! And you'd have to pick another additional scheme/theme for the content of the names.
Re: Herd Any Good Names? (Help us name the elk herds!)
You should name them after foods, like ones spaghetti, one's hamburger, etc since they're foods.
