1.6.3 update fixes name issues, increases mate framerate

Post by WileE » Fri Jul 18, 2008 8:26 am

OK, one more time!

We know it's a bit of a pain to update over and over, especially if you have limited bandwidth. This should be the last one for 1.6 unless something really major comes along.

This is NOT a mandatory update, but it fixes two areas we thought were worth issuing an update for:

v 1.6.3
RESOLVED ISSUES
Single Player
* Mate no longer causes a huge performance hit when standing idle. This should considerably improve overall framerate when a mate is in the game. Depending on the settings you run on, you may see your single player games with a mate speed up by as much as 2-3 times, almost as fast as without the mate at all.

Multiplayer
* Game host wolf name properly added to lexicon in open games (was the username and not the wolf name).
* Both user and wolf names are now added to lexicon in open games, so both names can be typed by all players.
* Server host wolf name now shown with the server host username when connecting to the server (was just the username).

so the BLUE SCREEN OF DOOM!!!!! was fixed?
Over the rise,
to the next hill.
Will you be there?
I know I will.

When you get there,
we shall rejoice.

listen to my voice.

That was a very brief problem due to a faulty build. It was fixed right away when it came up.

Networking issues are very hard to test thoroughly. So unfortunately you users become the beta testers when we find issues that come up when more people try it out.

The mate performance thing was something I should have noticed a long time ago, but it was too big of an improvement not to give it to you now!

My apologies. I didn't realize that the thread I posted under was for an earlier version. I did a search on the error message I got and clicked whatever looked like it might be the same problem.. I have the newest version, but I'm getting the Can't connect to the user database error x.x Also, I moved not long ago due to my parent's recent divorce, and I'm in a new house with my grandparents, so their internet may be configured differently, I'm not sure. They have the same ISP and all, but I never had this problem at the old house with the old version...

[Gonna post this in the help section, please delete it here]

It fixes the bugs that are listed in the release notes as fixed. As I've indicated above, some problems with multiplayer on not really bugs but just the vagaries of the Internet.

Can you send a bug report to bugs@wolfquest.org with a screenshot of what you see, a description of what you were doing (step by step from starting up the game), and your Program Files\WolfQuest\Data\output_log.txt file?

We've never seen this problem so until we have more information, I don't know what the cause might be. It could be that your Internet router is blocking the port the game is trying to use or something. But I'm really not sure.

You enjoy it? You're weird.
Mr. WileE, would it be too much to ask if you could modify the installer so that it asks me if I want to place those desktop shortcuts? At the rate you guys come up with fixes, I'd have to delete desktop shortcuts till next morning.
